The Italian course to achieve a B1 level for Italian citizenship is designed to guide students from basic knowledge to an intermediate proficiency, enabling confident communication in both everyday and formal situations.

The course is structured into three levels (A1, A2, B1) and covers everything from foundational language skills to understanding and expressing more complex ideas:

During this course, students will not only learn Italian at the required level, but will also learn specific skills that will help them pass the B1 citizenship exam.

We offer beginning, pre-intermediate, and intermediate level B1 Citizenship preparation courses to help you get ready for the B1 Citizenship exam.

Understanding the B1 Level

According to Legislative Decree no. 113/2018, anyone applying for Italian citizenship through marriage or residence must demonstrate at least a B1 level of Italian proficiency, in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

This means you should be able to:

  • Understand the main ideas in texts and everyday conversations.

  • Express yourself clearly on familiar topics and routine situations.

  • Maintain simple but fluent conversations with native speakers.

The certificate must be issued by one of the institutions recognized by the Italian government: CILS (Università per Stranieri di Siena), CELI (Università per Stranieri di Perugia), PLIDA (Società Dante Alighieri), or CERT.IT (Università Roma Tre).

At Dante in Linea, we are an official CILS center, so you can prepare for and take the exam directly with us, with sessions available throughout the year
