Italian Courses for Italian Citizenship

When applying for Italian citizenship through marriage, you must prove you have adequate knowledge of the Italian language.

Applicants are required to have competency in  Italian to the level of B1 level of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

During this course, students will not only learn Italian at the required level, but will also learn specific skills that will help them pass the B1 citizenship exam.

No previous knowledge of Italian is necessary to attend this course but students must be committed to studying at home and completed all assignments.

How does the course work?

Classes are small. You will study in groups of 3-6 students per class, which is designed to give each student plenty of attention and speaking time.

Classes are conversational. You are encouraged to engage in a variety of conversational situations each week. Mistakes are encouraged!

Don’t worry if you miss a class, you can watch the recording on our platform and the teacher will send you the class notes through the forum. If you have any questions, you can ask our tutor or the online community.

Course duration

If you are starting from scratch, this is the ideal course for you.

You can choose between:
– 5 months course with live classes 5 times per week or a
– 8.5 months course with live classes 3 times per week.

What you will learn

Applicants at a B1 level should be able to communicate in daily situations (orally and in writing), to understand the key points of a clear standard input about familiar topics and to read and understand the general meaning and main information of linear texts about general topics.

In addition, they should be able to talk about daily topics, to describe experiences and events, express their opinions, make comparisons and give suggestions.

Private Course

Our private lessons more specifically will prepare you to take he B1 test.

The focus of this private lessons is to give you the tools to became fluent in Italian starting from the basic and focus the attention in studying according to the CEFR program. (The program that will certify you as fluent in Italian).

We start with a minimum of 50 hours depending how is the student’s learning process/time.

The Italian B1 level language certification is an ‘intermediate’ level and means you are proficient enough in the Italian language for everyday interaction to live, study, and work in the community.

It is one of the six levels (ranging A1 for basic to C2 for advanced) of a Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) test that is designed to show fluency in the Italian language.

This certification serves as proof of intermediate competency in the language to the Italian government. This document could be useful for applying to scholastic programs, although some institutions require additional or higher levels of certification. It is recommended to check with your desired education program to see which level is appropriate.

The ability to work and earn income in the European Union is just one of the benefits of having Italian citizenship. If you are taking advantage of this benefit and seeking work in Italy or another European community in which Italian fluency would be required, you could be asked to provide proof of B1 (or higher) level certification as part of the application process.

The spouse of an Italian citizen, if residing abroad, may apply for Italian citizenship after:

• 3 years of marriage, but this period is reduced by half (18 months) in the presence of biological or adopted children

• Validity of the marriage according to Italian law and TRANSCRIPTION of the marriage certificate in the corresponding italian municipality (comune), in addition to the PERMANENCE OF THE MARITAL BOND until the issuance of the decree.

• Absence of CONVICTIONS according to art. 6 of law 91/1992.

• RESIDENCE in the country where you are going to apply for Italian citizenship by marriage.

• The Italian spouse must be regularly registered at AIRE;

• Knowledge of the ITALIAN LANGUAGE, with a level not lower than “B1” of the CEFR.

Documentation confirming the marriage bond, a certification of knowledge of the Italian language, with a level no lower than “B1”, must be presented.

This knowledge can be demonstrated in two ways:

• With a diploma of study that has been issued by an Italian institute of public instruction (or equivalent).

• With a certificate issued by a certifying body.

To obtain Italian citizenship, it is necessary to obtain an official certification accrediting Level B1.

The certifying authorities recognized by the Republic of Italy are the following:

Level B1 – Pre-Intermediate – of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR) is equivalent to level CELI 2, PLIDA B1 and CILS B1.
