What is Dante in Linea Methodology?

All our classes are conducted in Italian and provide training in all basic communication skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing – with a systematic study of grammar. This allows learners of all levels to quickly apply what they learn inside the classroom to real-life scenarios. We make sure that every sentence, activity and topic builds towards fluency.

How does the platform work?

Once you start the course, one of our consultants will guide you through a tour of the platform. This way you will get to know the platform and you will be able to navigate through it smoothly, making use of our tools to achieve your goal of learning Italian.

Will I cover all important language skills?

Yes. We have varying types of lessons that each focus on a different language competency: Speaking, Conversational Skills, Grammar, Vocabulary, Reading and Writing. With these skills, you will be able to speak with confidence in any situation, understand native-speakers from across the globe and feel comfortable building simple to complex sentence structures.

Up to what level can I learn?

We currently offer Italian from A1 – C1.

What learning materials will I get?

As a Dante in Linea student, you can download the class materials for free and use them at any time. You will also find multimedia activities after the lesson to help you review and test your new knowledge.

Dante in Linea’s experts have individually prepared each resource to match the CEFR requirements. See here to learn more about the CEFR.

Who are the teachers?

Learning a language takes more than just following a curriculum. That’s where our experienced native-speaking teachers come in. All of our teachers are certified, qualified and have a history of teaching excellence. Teaching is not their hobby, it’s their career.

Can I choose my teacher?

At Dante in Linea you will have the opportunity to study with native teachers from various regions of Italy, so you will learn with different styles and different accents, which is what makes the Dante in Linea experience so unique and prepares you for the real world.

If you start in a group course there will be a native teacher assigned to your course for the duration of the course. However, in private classes, if you find a teacher you like, you can book your classes as well.

What specifically happens in a class?

After scheduling a class on our platform, you will be able to join the class with 4-6 fellow students from around the world. The teacher will give an introduction before starting the session with the help of study materials that you can download after class.

We encourage you to engage with the students as well as the course materials and the instructor throughout class. The teacher will review the material and make sure everyone has comprehended it before class ends.

Will the teachers correct my mistakes?

Everyone makes mistakes, that’s how we learn. Our classes are intentionally small (3-5 students) so that you can not only practice speaking and receive personalized feedback, but learn from mistakes that other students are making as well. Your teacher will make sure that everyone has time to practice reading out loud, answering questions and conversing with one another.

And if you want more personal feedback (e.g. to improve your personal cover letter or learn the most difficult grammar topics), you can always sign up for an additional private class by purchasing extra classes..

Is it suitable for my language level and learning goal?

Dante in Linea offers learning plans that cater to all types of language learners, from beginner to advanced. Our modules are structured according to CEFR, which stands for Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. It is an internationally recognised framework that describes language ability from A1-C2 (A1 beginner and moving up to C2 fluent).

Once you are a registered Dante in Linea student, you can define your current CEFR level by taking our free placement test before you begin learning.

Will I have enough time for learning?

Our group classes are available online and are taught by teachers who are located across all time zones, so you can create a schedule that works for you. Take classes from anywhere, any time. In addition, all our classes are recorded in case you miss one.

Why does Dante in Linea offer rotation of teachers?

Every language has different accents, dialects and expressions depending on the region, especially Italian. Our students love learning with a variety of teachers because it exposes them to the many ways of speaking within a single language. This also allows you to find and shape your own way of speaking the language with confidence and personality.

Is online learning as effective as face-to-face classes?

We are absolutely sure it is..even more so! In a conventional school, you have limited time with a teacher, who in return can only provide you with limited resources. Our school eliminates those limits by offering live instruction and instant feedback on your written work, at any time.

Since you can study 24/7, wherever you want, you’ll find it easier to adapt our self-study tools and entertaining lessons.

Is Dante in Linea a language learning app?

We are not a language learning application. We are a language school that operates entirely online. We provide live classes with certified, native-speaking teachers, just like any other school. Nothing, according to Dante in Linea, can replace live interaction and tailored feedback from a real person.

Do I need to stick to a class schedule?

When it comes to study goals, it involves both planning and executing, and you need both the accomplish your goals. Studying needs to be part of your daily routine. It’s just a matter of how much time and when you think studying will be best suited to you.

What happens if I miss a class?

The class is available on the platform, so you can watch it at the time of your choice. Your teacher will email you the material they covered in class, so you will always know what’s going on even if you were not there. You might be able to attend a different group class to make up the lesson you missed if there is one course of the same level available. We are happy to offer you 1 private make-up class per course for $55/h, instead of $90/h.

I am going to miss one or more classes during the session. Will the class be pro-rated?

Dante in Linea does not prorate any classes for group courses. To cancel or change a particular Class, 24 hours notice must be received. There is no extra charge or penalty for changing or canceling an appointment as long as the change is made 24 hours in advance.

How long will it take to improve my language skills?

It all depends. Just like with learning any new skill, your progress is determined by your efforts. If you want to learn quickly, we recommend that you make language learning a habit. For best results, focus and participate in class, and complete the downloadable materials at the end of each class. It also depends on which of Dante in Linea’s online language courses you select, as some are more intensive than others.

I used to learn with a private tutor. Will I really progress with a group?

Definitely! There are several benefits to learning in a group setting. Firstly, you can practice speaking with your teacher and other classmates. Secondly, you will not only learn from correcting your own mistakes, but from recognizing and the mistakes of other students as well. But we offer private classes too, should you want some extra one-on-one time for practicing with a native-speaking teacher and receiving more personalized feedback.

Will I receive something to show my learning progress?
